No. The venom is collected on a glass plate with a mesh of fine wires at the hive entrance. A mild impulse prompts the bee to release a drop of venom onto the glass; the stinger stays intact and the bee flies away.

People allergic to bee venom or bee products, people with sensitive skin, kidney or liver disease, children under 12, pregnant and breastfeeding women. A 30-minute forearm patch test before first use is mandatory.

Bee venom (apitoxin) is a clear, bitter liquid produced by worker bees in the venom gland. It consists of peptides (melittin up to 60 %), enzymes (phospholipase, hyaluronidase) and biogenic amines.
